October 22nd, 2005 - Doom3X Is Here! |
Doom3X is here for all to enjoy, go to the download section and check it out! Also the features section has been updated, but this isn't the end... This is only version 1.0 of Doom3X. I promised I would have a version out for Doom movies release, even though the Doom movie might suck, you'll find out soon.
Please be sure to read the instructions about the changes in controls on the download page while downloading.
I have an online journal you can feel free to read if you like, I'm sure a Doom movie review will be there soon. Or you may hear my and my friends review of the Doom movie as a guest host on the Bridger And Harlock show on TSNcentral.com when B&H come back on the air after TSN completes it's coverage of Tournaments.
I intend to take a small break from the mod while I update other parts of this site, like post the Doom2X-trilogy. I hope to get some input e-mails from people who played it who can help me find other bugs as well as maybe get some new ideas. As well as I am already talking to some talented mod makers on how to implement some of their brilliant ideas into my mod, so there maybe a new version soon enough.
I will hint to something I'd like to have, does anyone remember the Ultimate weapon from Doom64? I'd like to see that return. For now, enjoy version 1.0 of Doom3X. And as always feel free to e-mail me.
Gotta get back to some F.E.A.R. now.... and some Myst IV, and V.... oh and that Shadow Of The Colossus. Hmm, what about that Devil May Cry 3.... god I'm behind on my gaming. |
October 5th, 2005 - Features List Added - Comment To Critics |
By popular request I added a features page, took me a while to outline most of what I've changed so far, I'm working hard to have this out on the day I plan, for those people who may have forgotten...

10 - 22 - 05
Also there are new screenshots available to check out... Check out the Riotgun! I want to also take a moment to address some of the replies and comments about this project, I thank everyone for their support and positive comments, I also thank those who have the negitive comments as well. Here's why, someone commented if my Doom3 mod will have illegal material like my original Doom2X-trilogy. The answer is no. What features I have borrowed like the transparent Wraith from the Infernal Death Orgy mod, and the railgun physics on the pistol that allow me to make fire through multiple targets have been used with permission as I keep in contact with those individuals, and I give full credit to those individuals at the end credits of my mod.
And about the original Doom2X-trilogy, did that have illegal material? The answer to if those mods had illegal material back in 1996-97 was yes... but the only thing illegal was the fact that I included the original Doom EXE modified with the mod. I was 17, stupid, and inexperienced in modding, and it was a new thing back then, the rules were not as solid as they are now... And frankly, releasing those mods with the EXE now wouldn't help anyone... Everyone is using Windows XP, and we know how well it works with DOS.
By simply having it include now a DEH file instead, makes my mods legal, yes my original Doom2X-trilogy mods had content from other authors, but it was legal, and with permission, maybe if you wait a little bit and not start the game, and wait through some of the demos... you might see the credit screen I made and see who I thanked. The goal of Doom2X-treme and Doom2X-treme GOLD was a "best of" kind of mod. Best levels, by best designers, using my engine and difficulty. They all gave their permission, and what permission they didn't give was already given in the txt files included just asking for credit if someone used them. |
September 22nd, 2005 - Double Barrel Removed |
Minor setback...
In order to have the game as clean as possible, I've decided to remove the Double Barrel Shotgun. As much as this displeases me... I've seen a couple mods use it that are not Resurrection of Evil mods, and no one seems to bug them about it. But I don't want to stir anyones pot, and I will not limit the release and the experience of my Doom3 mod by making it a Resurrection of Evil mod. Only so many people bought Doom3, and a percentage of them got Resurrection of Evil, so making it for those limits all who could play this.
I'm going to keep the way it fires though and make some sort of Riotgun, haven't thought of a for sure name yet, but Riotgun sounds about right. Something that automatically fires shotgun rounds 2 at a time. That way it will play like the Double Barrel, but already use a pre-existing model of the shotgun but altered and color changed.
In other news, by popular demand it's been asked that I re-release my Doom2X mods. I will do that soon, I need to retool them and rezip them up and then people can check it out. But I want to stress that these re-releases will be AS IS for now. Meaning there will be old people there I thank for no reason I no longer give a care about (like my ex), and it will also have old E-mail address and website links that are no longer useable.
I may go back and retool them later with new more current info, like links to this website. But that will be after I post ways for people to play them on Dreamcast or JDoom. |
September 17th, 2005 - New Screens |
I forgive the delay of this sites release, had a bit of a hickup first day when a power outage hit the entire city of Los Angeles and learned the hard way this is where my server is located. Took 3 days to get the site back online and I was hating every moment of it.
To make up for this I've added new screens of my progress, and am working on a list of the changes I've made so far. I don't feel the screenshots truly capture the gameplay enhances I've made and hope to out line all of those changes soon. For now, if you want to read an essay on gaming storylines I wrote, check out my livejournal. I hope to be on Bridger And Harlock tonight at 9pm EST on TSN Central.
Hope to see you then. |
September 12th, 2005 - Doom3X is coming. |
Today is the day that I announce my return to the Doom community and Doom modding with the announcement of Doom3X.
Some might know me as gunslinger@pe.net, some might remember me as comtar@yahoo.com, some know me as Comtar, Finalrequiem, but my name is Charles Lai, and almost 9 years ago I came into the Doom Mod Community in the September issue of PC Gamer Magazine with a mod called Doom2X, this mod would later have a second incarnation as Ultra Doom2X, and then a full 32 level massive conversion in Doom2X-treme and yet another as Doom2X-treme GOLD.
I am the creator of the Doom2X-trilogy in the form of Ultra Doom2X, Doom2X-treme, and Doom2X-treme GOLD. While I may have made 4 mods, I consider Doom2X, and Ultra Doom2X the same game just Ultra was a fix with what issues I had in Doom2X. Now, I have come back in full force with Doom3X.
Doom 3X has been a secret project I've been working on with assistance of a few other Doom3 mod makers to make Doom3 the way it should have been, and the way it should have been enjoyed, a fast and furious single player experience with my own personal blend of my own vision of Doom with the monsters seen in the Doom2X-trilogy, like the villain Comtar, and the monstrous liquid Ial.
Right now I am aiming for the release date of at least a public BETA of this mod for October 21st, 2005. Doom fans will recognize this date as the release of Doom movie from Universal Pictures. The release of the BETA I hope will excite some fans and level designers to make this a more ambitious project later, but even if only a handful of people experience Doom3X and it's the only Doom3 mod I make. I promise it to be the caliber you've seen in the Doom2X-trilogy.
Along with Doom3X, expect this site to home the original Doom2X-trilogy downloadable for the public once again. As well as instructions on how to use other mods to allow Doom2X to run in graphically enhance Doom conversions like JDoom and even run the Doom2X-trilogy on SEGA Dreamcast.
While the info will be in the Contact section of this site, I invite my fans who wonder of my absence to check out my livejournal, or Myspace. I do not write in Myspace, but I do write in my livejournal, feel free to link me on either site if you yourself have accounts there. You can easily access my life's history as well as things I've done in the last 9 years since I disappeared at my livejournal.
I also am working on a Podcast I try to work on monthly talking about gaming and the world. You can also catch me occasionally as a guest host on the Bridger And Harlock Show on TSN Central, Saturdays from 9pm to Midnight EST. Also check out my friends Podcast, The Grey Ghost, I occasionally am either mentioned or even guesting on that as well. Either way, feel free to contact me.
